How to host a sports media day for your team

It’s simple and requires minimum work as a coach or athletic director.

What is a sports media day?

A sports media day allows your school to obtain professional photographs of your team, including dynamic portraits and action shots of individual athletes. After processing, these images are stored in a gallery for easy access and can be used for school media, athletic announcements, highlight posts, and for parents to print, post, and share.

When does it happen?

Usually and most conveniently, a media day is produced during one of your team’s practice sessions. It starts with a full team shot and then while the team practices, students are pulled one at a time for their action and portrait sessions. This schedule has the smallest impact on regular practice time since only one or two athletes are being photographed at a time. Small group shots can also be incorporated at the coach’s discretion.

Where is it held?

With our state of the art, portable studio systems, Jassnight Photography can produce your media day virtually anywhere. This includes gyms, workout rooms, locker rooms, sport fields or stadiums. It doesn’t matter if it is day or night. With dynamic photography techniques, we can produce dramatic, high intensity scenes for portrait and fast action images in any place, at any time.

What is the cost?

We know sports budgets are strapped these days. Sports media days can be completely free for your school with the parent payment method. This is where each parent pays only $20 for their athlete to receive personal action and portrait shots while the school not only has access to these photos, but team and group photos for no cost. This payment method does have one drawback: Even though all students are part of the team photos, some parents may not sign up for individual photos and those individual athletes may feel left out when the individual sessions begin. To alleviate this, schools may consider covering the costs for individual photos, or cover costs for students with need at $20 per athlete.
